Britons want to have over £650,000 in their savings accounts. The size of Britons’ fantasy savings accounts significantly outstrips reality, figures from The Co-operative Bank have shown.
According to the report, the typical saver currently has a deposit of around £3,492 and puts by an extra £219 per month.
However, The Co-operative Bank also found that the average amount people would be “content” with having in the account is £656,723.
Regional variations on fantasy savings were also highlighted by the report, with residents of East Anglia dreaming about having £868,000 in their accounts and those in the north-east content with £389,000.
The Co-operative Bank poll also highlighted the high levels of financial responsibility currently being exhibited by British consumers.
Around three in four said that they were spending within their means, while two-thirds of people had set themselves a budget.
John Hughes, director of retail banking for The Co-operative Bank, commented: “It is encouraging to see that people are taking a close interest in their finances and by monitoring spending and saving regularly, people can ensure they have the money set aside to pay for any unexpected events.”
